People before profit

Most development projects, at face value, seem aimed at improving the lives of people. The reality for communities living at or near a project is often quite different.

Forced evictions regularly do not uphold obligations to fairly consult, compensate, resettle and rehabilitate communities. An estimated 15 million people are affected each year. “People Before Profit” brings together stories of forced evictions from 11 countries and highlights the common violations that occur before, during and after evictions. The video is a major tool for WITNESS and our partners to leverage local campaigns and to represent forced evictions as the international human rights issue it truly is.
