Young people leaving care
Young people generally experience the greatest hurdles in accessing employment. For care leavers, these challenges are especially destabilizing. Young people ageing out of care are individuals who leave care upon coming of age and who are no longer entitled to care and protection under the child welfare systems. Care leavers face discrimination in all spheres of life, including employment where they have particularly limited job opportunities and are more likely to be engaged in illegal work, meaning minimal and often irregular pay, non-access to health and social benefits.
